Butyl rubber (IIR)
Butyl rubber (IIR or isobutene-isoprene rubber) is a copolymer of isoprene and isobutene. It is characterised by very good resistance to weathering and exposure to ozone, good gas barrier properties and very good elastic behaviour at low temperatures. The amount of double bonds is determined by the proportion of isoprene and allows the butyl rubber to be vulcanised or halogenated.
Industries
TER Chemicals offers various types of butyl rubber (IIR). IIR is mainly used for the production of tires and tubes, as well as in the adhesives and sealants industry. Larger amounts are used as sealants in the building industry, usually in the form of laminated tapes and profiles.
